• Elected Officers

    President: Katie Russell
    Katie is the Manager of Process Technology and Continuous Improvement for SunCoke Energy. Katie has been an active DSUA member since 2013 and served as Secretary on the Board in 2016. In her role with SunCoke, Katie is responsible for leading the corporate and plant Process Engineering resources to troubleshoot problems, conduct trials for process optimization or new technologies, and drive continuous improvement at the facilities. Katie is also the program manager for the repairs of the SDA units across the fleet.

    Vice-President: Ken Rogers
    Ken Rogers, President of Omega Atomizers, is an Electrical Engineer with 20 years of experience in the FGD industry. He is a founding member of the DSUA and has been an active participant at all DSUA conferences since he joined Omega Atomizers in 1997. He manufactures and services more than 16 models of Spray Dry Scrubber Systems used across the FGD industry worldwide. Ken has previously served on the DSUA Board of Directors for two 2 year terms in 2010 & 2011 and again in 2015 & 2016 as Treasurer.

    Secretary: Kevin Calloway
    Employed by Heorot Power Management at the Hardin Generating Station in Montana. Kevin received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and have been the Plant Engineer since construction in 2005. Duties have included the re-design of the ash and lime systems from the original design with a great deal of input from DSUA members and sponsors. Those changes have resulted in increasing the solids in the recycle system from 14% to 30% and cutting lime costís in half. Current challenges include dealing with an aging atomizers and motors whose manufacturers are overseas and parts are very long lead times. Again, a great deal of information and resources have been gained from the members and sponsors of the DSUA allowing procurement of parts within the USA. Kevin has been in the power industry for 15 years.

    Treasurer: Tom Kaforey
    Tom has a B.S. Chemical Engineering degree and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio. He began his career at B&W, later worked for Ohio Edison Co. (now First Energy) and for the last 26 years has worked for American Electric Power Service Corporation. He is a Supervising Principal Engineer in the Integrated Emissions & Chemical Engineering Section in Columbus, Ohio. Tom has primary design basis responsibility for Fleet Wet FGD and also for the Turk Plant Dry FGD (B&W SDA) in Arkansas. Tom has been a member of DSUA since 2016.

    Director: Jim Maitland
    Jim Maitland has been a DSUA member since 2012, and is currently working as a Staff Engineer in Utilities Distribution at Eastman Chemical Company. Before that, he worked five years in Power, and four and a half years in Plant Engineering at Eastman. While in the Power Department, Jim was responsible for providing technical assistance surrounding all boiler and back-end related equipment, including the Dry Scrubbers. Jim graduated in 2007 from Virginia Tech with his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and received his Professional Engineer license for the state of Tennessee in 2011.

    Director: David Kahan
    David has been a DSUA member since 2014 and currently works as a Sales Engineer and SDA SME at Integrated Global Service, Inc. David received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University in 2009. Out of college, David was hired by Siemens Environmental Systems and Services, formerly Wheelabrator, as a Startup and Commissioning Field Engineer. During his four years with Siemens, David worked on SDA, WFGD, WESP, DESP, PAC, HL, and baghouse equipment on large and small power plant in the US. In 2013, David joined Integrated Global Services as a Project Manager to focus on execution of corrosion and erosion protection via thermal spray. David was promoted to Sales Engineer in 2014 to focus on corrosion and erosion protection in backend equipment within the US and Canada. He has lead the efforts to coat fourteen SDA chambers with thermal spray in the last several years.

    Director: Daniel Toft
    Dan is the Director of Business Development for Duromar Repair & Maintenance Coatings. Dan has been heavily involved in the industry of corrosion and erosion mitigation within coal and solid fuels power plants for 10 years. Dan is most notably involved in the inspection and protection of Air Quality Control Systems represented within the DSUA. Dan is also an Associate Member of The American Society of Civil Engineers.

    Dan is the acting vice-chairman for ASTM D33.09 technical sub-committee on Protective Coatings for AQCS. Additionally, Dan was elected to the executive committee for all of ASTM D33. Dan has a degree from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Oxford, MS. Dan is a member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers and is a Certified Level III Inspector, as well as Nuclear Coating Inspector from both NACE and EPRI.
